Gilpin County Dems 6th Annual Art Auction

This pastel and foil on wood is the creation of Gilpin artist and County Commissioner Gail Watson. Dimensions are 20 x 28", framed 31 x 39".  Retail value of this stunning piece is $1,200.  Bidding will start at $300, please make your best offer early.

This gorgeous 3d wall mural is the creation of artist Mary Bell, owner of the Mountain Goat Gallery in Central City. The piece measures 16" in diameter and is made with iridized and Dichronic glass.  It retails for $125.

Created of sumptuous Merino Wool by Gilpin artist Lynn Hirshman this lovely shawl retails at $40.

Oil on canvas by an unknown Mexican artist acquired in the 1970s in Ensenada, Mexico. Custom wood carved framed dimensions are: 22" h x 19 1/2 w

This framed pastel painting is the creation of well-known local artist Virginia Unseld. Virginia is mostly known for her Colorado landscape paintings but this painting combines an interior still life of cacti with the fall foliage viewed through  a window. Framed in an ornate gold frame with a cream mat and gold fillet it measures 26" x 32".  Retail value $650. 

"Shiprock Sunset" by Ute Mountain artist Calvin Willie is an unframed sand painting mounted on an 18" x 16" board. The painting was purchased at the Notah Dineh art gallery in Cortez about 35 years ago. 

Photographer and Colorado State Representative KC Becker captured this historic covered bridge in Vermont in 2001.  Framed dimensions are 17 1/2"w x 14 1/2"h

This large "Prayer to the Healing Spirit" bronze sculpture inspired by Buck McCain sits on a marble base. Dimensions are 20" wide x 12" deep x 34" high. 

Sculpture Buck McCain was commissioned to make the original for the Franklin Mint in 1988.  You can find  smaller (17" high) somewhat more detailed bronzes for sale online for from $300-$600.  This specific bronze and size sold for $400 on liveauctioneers.com in July, 2014, for $500 on Dec. 4, 2014, then again for $600 on Dec. 9, 2014 at Pook & Pook, Inc. (bidsquare.com).

This charming clay sculpture is created by Colorado artist Carol Schultz.  Crafted from white clay and covered in horse hair to create texture each piece is then fired twice and finally coated in wax. Retail price is $25.

Beer brewing began as a tradition in Gilpin County in 1864. During the heyday of brewing from 1864 until 1880 as many as fifteen different breweries made beer for thousands of thirsty miners in the “Pointylands.” Today Dostal Alley is the only brewery left in Gilpin County.  Dostal Alley began brewing in 1998 and continues with a variety of ales and lagers.  This multi pack of Dostal Beers comes in a hand made crate built from local Beetle Kill wood.
